|---|---|---|---|---|
| India | 5 years, or 1 year if fixed-term | Wages x 15 x years / 26 | Basic pay plus dearness allowance | INR 2,000,000 |
| UAE | 1 year | 21 days a year for 5 years, then 30 | Basic salary / 30 | 2 years of wage |

| Qatar | 1 year | 21 days of wage per year | Basic salary / 30 | None |
Notes for each country
India
Permanent staff need 5 years of service. Fixed-term staff need 1 year under the labour codes in force since November 21, 2025. The legal limit is INR 2,000,000, and many employers pay more by policy.
UAE
Limited and unlimited contracts use the same formula under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. Resigning does not reduce the amount. The law expects final dues within 14 days, so confirm the deadline with MOHRE.
Saudi Arabia
Articles 84 to 87 of the Labor Law cover the award. Termination pays the full amount. Resignation pays one third from 2 years, two thirds from 5 years, and the full award from 10 years. Some exceptions pay the full award, so ask HR.
Qatar
Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 sets the minimum of 21 days of basic wage per year. A contract can pay more but never less. Free zones such as the Qatar Financial Centre may have separate rules.
Two examples to test
The tool counts exact days, so real dates can land a few units away from these rounded figures.
India. A permanent employee has wages of INR 50,000 and 8 years 7 months of service. The extra 7 months round up to a ninth year. The result is INR 259,615. At 8 years 5 months the count stays at 8, and the result falls to INR 230,769.
UAE. Basic salary is AED 8,000 and service is 7 years. The worker earns 105 days for the first 5 years and 60 days for the next 2. The result is AED 44,000, or about USD 11,981 at a rate of 3.6725.
Mistakes that skew the result
- Using gross pay with allowances in the UAE or Qatar. Both count basic salary only.
- Rounding years by hand. Only permanent staff in India use the 6-month rounding rule.
- Skipping the resignation rule in Saudi Arabia. Leaving before year 10 lowers the award.
- Forgetting the cap. UAE gratuity stops at 2 years of wage.
- Using a stale exchange rate. Your bank's rate on payment day sets the real dollar amount.
Calculator FAQs
How is end-of-service gratuity calculated?
Each country sets its own formula. India uses wages times 15 times years, divided by 26. The UAE pays 21 days a year for 5 years, then 30. Saudi Arabia pays half a month a year for 5 years, then a full month. Qatar pays 21 days a year.
Do I get gratuity if I resign?
In India, the UAE, and Qatar, yes, once you meet the minimum service. Saudi Arabia pays a share on resignation. That share is one third from 2 years, two thirds from 5 years, and full from 10 years.
What is the minimum service?
The UAE and Qatar need 1 year. Permanent staff in India need 5 years, and fixed-term staff need 1 year since November 21, 2025. Saudi Arabia has no minimum on termination.
Which salary should I enter?
Use the pay the country counts. The UAE and Qatar use basic salary. India uses basic pay plus dearness allowance. Saudi Arabia uses your last total wage. Leave out one-time bonuses.
Are unpaid leave days counted?
No. Enter them in the form and the tool removes them from your service.
How does the US dollar estimate work?
You enter how much local currency equals one US dollar. The tool divides your final settlement by that rate. Gulf rates are filled in for you because those currencies track the dollar at fixed levels. For India, enter the rate you expect at payout.
Before you rely on the number
The tool follows the legal formula, but your contract can pay more. Confirm the final figure with HR. Read the Disclaimer and the Editorial Policy to see how I keep the rules current. Last updated November 3, 2026.
